Upper Hunter Shire Council is inviting community members to participate in a consultation process regarding a proposed Special Rate Variation (SRV) designed to secure the financial sustainability of essential services and infrastructure.

As part of our commitment to transparency and community engagement, we are seeking feedback on two SRV options:

  1. SRV of 10% over 3 years: A cumulative permanent increase of 33.10% over three years.
  2. SRV of 7.5% over 4 years: A cumulative permanent increase of 33.55% over four years.

For the average residential household, the proposed SRV will amount to approximately $4 extra per week, above normal rating increases, by the final year of the SRV.

The SRV is crucial for maintaining current service levels, funding necessary infrastructure renewal and maintenance, and addressing financial sustainability challenges faced by the Council. Rising costs, economic pressures, and the impact of natural disasters have highlighted the need for additional funding to ensure we can continue to operate effectively and meet community expectations.

Mayor Maurice Collison stated, “We understand the importance of maintaining the high quality of services that our community relies on. This consultation process is an opportunity for residents to have their say on how we can best secure our future. We encourage everyone to participate and provide their feedback.”
