THE LOCAL CHURCH
The local church is an assembly of ‘born again’ baptised believers united in organisation to practise New Testament ordinances, to meet together for worship, prayer, fellowship, teaching, and a united testimony; and to actively engage in carrying out the Great Commission.
The church and government each have definite and distinct spheres of responsibility.
The ordinances given to the local church are baptism by immersion, and the Lord's supper, a continuing memorial of the broken body and shed blood of Christ, until He returns.
There are two offices in the local church: pastor (also referred to as bishop or elder) and deacon. When there is more than one pastor, one of them will have a senior role as an administrative head. Pastors and deacons are to be men.
We believe in the independence and autonomy of the local church.
Compromising involvements with groups such as the World Council of Churches are contrary to the biblical admonition to 'come out from among them, and be separate'.
