Upper Hunter Shire Council, in its meeting held on the 25th of March 2024, has adopted several significant recommendations that will pave the way for notable community development and engagement.

Council has nominated Councillors James Burns and Allison McPhee to attend the 2024 National General Assembly (NGA) in Canberra, scheduled from 2 to 4 July 2024. This year’s NGA, themed “Building Community Trust,” will see our representatives engage on national policy development and opportunities to enhance community trust and collaboration.

In a move to address the financial challenges of rural and regional areas, Council has approved Councillor James Burns’ request to attend the Local Government NSW Rural & Regional Summit in Sydney on 9 May 2024. The Summit is anticipated to be a platform for sharing insights and strategies to uplift rural and regional communities.

Council also nominated Councillor Adam Williamson as its representative to the AGL Macquarie Community Dialogue Group. This critical role will focus on addressing environmental and social issues arising from the Liddell Power Station's closure and demolition, marking a significant step towards sustainable community development.

Council has noted the effectiveness of the Audit, Risk, and Improvement Committee’s Terms of Reference and the Internal Audit Charter from 18 March 2024. Councillor Allison McPhee will serve as Council’s non-voting member, aligning with Council’s commitment to robust governance and risk management.

The Jefferson Park Masterplan, aimed at enhancing and expanding local sports and recreational facilities, has been endorsed for public exhibition. After extensive consultation, the Masterplan outlines a development for Jefferson Park, Aberdeen, catering to current and future community needs. Upper Hunter Shire Council remains dedicated to fostering community growth, cultural development, and sustainable practices.

These initiatives reflect the Council's commitment to enhancing the quality of life for its residents and laying down a resilient and prosperous future for the Upper Hunter.
