Aberdeen Cemetery

In 1867 seven acres of land in Aberdeen was dedicated to the creation of the Aberdeen Cemetery with first known burials dating back to 1894.

The typhoid pandemic hit the area with the newly built meatworks in the area in 1894. Scone and Muswellbrook hospitals become inundated with patients and a tent hospital was set up in Aberdeen to assist with the growing number of patients.

During 1894 one acre of the Aberdeen Cemetery was declared sacred to the Church of England and become known as the ‘God’s Acre’.
