Renewable Energy Zones
The Upper Hunter Shire is uniquely positioned in relation to three Renewable Energy Zones (REZs): the Central-West Orana REZ, Hunter-Central Coast REZ and New England REZ.

The Central-West Orana REZ extends into the western part of the Upper Hunter Shire, including the Cassilis area. This area will accommodate part of the Liverpool Range Wind Farm, along with associated transmission line infrastructure.
The Hunter-Central Coast REZ includes Aberdeen and an area to the south, west and east of Scone.
The New England REZ is also relevant to the Upper Hunter Shire, with proposed dual 500kV transmission lines servicing the REZ expected to traverse the eastern part of the Shire, extending from Rouchel in the south to the shire boundary near Barry in the north.
