Upper Hunter Shire Council is proud to announce the official opening of the Murrurundi Youth and Community Centre, a purpose-built facility designed to provide young people and the wider community with a safe, accessible, and modern space.

The project has been funded through the NSW Government’s Regional Youth Investment Program (RYIP), supporting Council’s commitment to delivering essential infrastructure and opportunities for young people across the Shire. Replacing the former youth centre, the new facility delivers a significantly improved environment with features designed for comfort, safety, and functionality.

The centre includes insulated spaces with air conditioning to ensure year-round use, along with purpose-designed areas for programs, games, art, and life skills activities. A dedicated office for youth workers provides confidential support services, while modern kitchen and laundry facilities support the delivery of life skills programs. Accessible amenities and improved storage have also been incorporated to enhance activities and supervision.

Beyond youth-focused services, the facility also benefits the wider community. A bookable meeting room has been included, featuring a kitchenette, air conditioning, and a smart TV, while additional office space allows visiting services such as NDIS, mental health providers, and community support organisations to operate locally. The centre’s shared facilities are also available for community groups and events, ensuring the building serves as a hub for a broad range of needs.

Upper Hunter Shire Mayor Maurice Collison welcomed the opening of the new centre. “This is a fantastic day for Murrurundi. The Youth and Community Centre provides a safe, welcoming space for young people and also brings essential services closer to home. Council is proud to see this project completed and extends its thanks to the NSW Government for making it possible through the Regional Youth Investment Program,” Mayor Collison said.

Minister for Youth, the Hon. Rose Jackson MLC said the project demonstrates the government’s ongoing commitment to young people in rural and regional communities.

“The Murrurundi Youth and Community Centre is a fantastic example of what we can achieve when we invest in young people and regional communities,”

“This centre will be a place where young people can connect with each other, build skills, and feel supported. This is exactly the kind of impact we’re aiming for through the Regional Youth Investment Program.”

The new centre is now open for use by local youth programs, visiting services, and community groups, marking an important milestone in Murrurundi’s future.
