The Aberdeen Highland Games is celebrated on the first weekend of July each year. The day has a number of events, such as the street parade, opening and closing ceremonies, activities for all, BBQ's, stalls and much more. The Highland Games started a few years ago and has progressed and is now attracting people from all over the state. Stall holders come from all over the state as well to be host for their family name and tradition.
The Games begin with a parade of bands, clan representatives and others that leads into the Massed Band Salute and Chieftain’s Address that officially opens the day.
Throughout the day there will be fun for all the family – there will be Highland and Country Dancing, Pipe Band displays, Strong Man events with the Kilted Warriors to enjoy as well as three-legged races, and the famed Kilted Dash to participate in.
A multitude of stores and stands will surround the area selling all manner of Scottish heirlooms and souvenirs, clothing and garb, and food and drink to complete your day.
Clan societies will be well represented who are only too willing to help you trace your links with Scotland and the Highlands.
In the evening there, following the Games, there will be a Pipe Band Quintet competition at the Aberdeen RSL Club run by the New South Wales Pipe Band Association in conjunction with the Tamworth District Pipe Band.
