Scone Horse Festival

The historic town of Scone is well known as the ‘Horse Capital of Australia’. The Warburton Estate Agents Scone Horse Festival was established in 1980 paying homage to all breeds of horses, including Thoroughbreds, Australian Stock horses and draught horses, as well as the men and women who breed and work with them. Celebrated by large crowds to attend the two-day Scone Cup Race Carnival, attracting over 10,000 visitors each year.

Events throughout the festival include a street parade with numerous horses clip clopping down the streets of town, an equine extravaganza, farrier demonstrations, sheep dog trials, yarns night, polo, ‘neighbour’ art competitions, thoroughbred industry awards, school horse sports, horse shows, equine exhibitions, stud farm tour, sportsmans luncheon, calcutta and ending with the grand finale fireworks family picnic event.

The Warburton Estate Agents Scone Horse Festival is a town celebration of all things that make Scone the ‘Horse Capital of Australia’. Join the community as it comes together for 10 days of fun, excitement and entertainment in the Upper Hunter Valley.

Getting Here

Scone, Horse Capital of Australia is located on the New England Highway and can be accessed by car, train, bus and private plane.

By car 

A 3.5 hour drive from Sydney, 2 hours from Newcastle and 1.5 hours from Tamworth.

By train

Scone is on the Hunter Line and both SydneyTrains and Trainlink operate services to Scone Railway Station.

When travelling to Sydney with SydneyTrains, you will usually have to change trains at Hamilton.

By plane

Scone airport is accessible by private charter only. Airspeed Aviation and Pay’s Air Service both operate out of Scone.
